About Beyond Universitas
Who we are
Zimbabwe continues to face increasing environmental challenges that directly affect livelihoods, food security, public health, and sustainable development. Climate change impacts such as prolonged droughts, erratic rainfall patterns, land degradation, biodiversity loss, pollution, and inadequate waste management have placed significant pressure on both rural and urban communities. Limited access to clean and safe water remains a serious concern, particularly for vulnerable and marginalised populations.
Despite recognition of these challenges, communities often lack environmental education, practical resources, and institutional support. This gap results in continued environmental degradation and increased vulnerability to climate risks.
The organisation was established following direct engagement with communities experiencing a range of environmental challenges, including:
- Environmental degradation
- Water scarcity
- Poor waste management
- Limited climate change awareness
The founders identified a gap between environmental policies and their practical implementation at the community level. In response to this need, the organisation was created to:
- Strengthen community capacity
- Promote behavioural change
- Support locally driven environmental solutions
- Contribute to national development priorities and global commitments
Vision
Resilient communities living in harmony with a protected and sustainably managed environment.
